March 22, 2017

The MSc programmes scored respectively 8.2 points and 9 points out of 10 in the ‘Keuzegids Masters 2017’

Master’s programmes Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, and Parallel and Distributed Computer Systems are top rated, according to the ‘Keuzegids Masters 2017’, which was published this week. They scored respectively 8.2 points and 9 points out of 10. Based on student input, the Keuzegids 2017 has awarded six Master’s programmes at VU the distinction of ‘Top Rated Programme’. Two of the programmes, Parallel and Distributed Computer Systems and Tax Law, attained a top-20 position in the guide’s yearly Master’s programme ranking. A total of 144 Master’s programmes received a mark of 7.5 or higher in the survey.

National Student Survey
The Keuzegids assesses and compares Master’s programmes based on input from experts in the field of higher education, as well as on student input from the National Student Survey of 2016. Approximately 35 percent of Dutch Master’s students took part in this survey. Data on programme size, language of tuition, method of instruction and tuition fees also played an important role in the ranking process.

The general aim of the guide is to help prospective students choose the right Master’s programme for them. Overall, the VU came in seventh out of the nine ‘general’ universities in the Netherlands with a score of 57.5, ranking just behind Erasmus University Rotterdam (58 points) and Utrecht University (59 points). Tilburg University (63 points) tops the ranking.
