UvA Positioned 58th in QS Global Rankings

June 8, 2017

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) has been placed 58th in the QS World University Rankings 2017/2018. A change of one placed compared to last year (in 2016/2017 UvA was placed 57th).

It is the first time since the start of the QS Rankings (2010) (previously  Times Higher Education ranking) that the UvA is not the highest listed Dutch university. This honor is awarded to TU Delft this year (placed 54th).

The UvA and the TUD are the only Dutch universities with a top 100 ranking. World’s number one this year is again the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Methodology

The ranking of QS is based on six indicators: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%), student to faculty ratio (20%), international faculty (5%) and international students (5%).

By field of study

Every spring, QS World University Rankings will appear by subject, with rankings in the field. In the last edition there were 19 subject areas at the UvA with a top 50 position in their field.
